Paperwork should not be the reason someone puts off treatment. At SouthFields Physiotherapy Centre we work with patients whose care may be funded through extended health benefits, a workplace injury claim, or the Interim Federal Health Program, and we help you understand the process before you commit to anything.
These three routes are entirely different. Extended health care comes through a private insurance plan, usually via an employer. WSIB relates specifically to injuries that happened at work. IFHP is a federal program covering certain groups, including eligible refugee claimants and protected persons.
An important note before you read further: we cannot confirm what your particular plan or claim will pay for. Coverage depends on your individual plan and eligibility, and the decision rests with your insurer or the relevant program, not with our clinic. What we can do is explain how each route generally works, tell you what information to gather, and help with the documentation on our end. Please contact us to discuss your coverage before your first appointment.
Extended health care refers to private insurance benefits, most often provided through an employer or purchased individually, that may help with the cost of services such as physiotherapy, massage therapy, chiropractic care, acupuncture, naturopathic care, and osteopathy.
Each plan is written differently. Two people at the same workplace can have different limits, and a plan that covers one of our services generously may not include another at all.
Some plans allow the clinic to bill the insurer directly, in which case you pay only any remaining balance. Others require you to pay at the time of your visit and submit the receipt yourself for reimbursement. Our administrative team will let you know what is possible in your case and provide the receipts and documentation you need either way.
WSIB provides benefits and support to workers in Ontario who are injured on the job or develop a work-related condition. Where a claim is approved, WSIB may fund rehabilitation aimed at recovery and a safe return to work.
If your claim is approved for treatment with us, we handle the required reporting and communication with WSIB on our side, and we structure your rehabilitation around the physical demands of your actual job rather than a generic program. Bring your claim number, employer details, and the date of injury to your first appointment. Whether a claim is accepted, and what it funds, is determined by WSIB.
The Interim Federal Health Program provides limited, temporary health coverage for certain groups who are not yet eligible for provincial health insurance, including eligible refugee claimants, resettled refugees, and other protected persons.
We welcome patients covered under IFHP and will treat you with the same care and privacy as any other patient. Bring your IFHP certificate or document to your appointment so we can verify what applies. If a service you need is not covered, we will tell you before treatment goes ahead so there are no surprises.
This information may be useful if you:
Having these details ready lets us verify what we can before your appointment and reduces delays on the day.
We cannot confirm that. Coverage depends on your individual plan and eligibility, and the decision belongs to your insurer or program. We can tell you what information to request from them and what documentation we provide.
It depends on the insurer and the specific plan, as not all permit it. Please contact us with your plan details and we will let you know what is possible.
Any remaining balance is payable by you. We will discuss the amount with you before treatment so you can decide how to proceed.
You do not need one to be seen at our clinic, but many insurance plans require a referral before they will reimburse. Check your policy wording first.
Report the injury to your employer, seek medical attention and state that it is work-related, and a claim can then be filed with WSIB. Once you have a claim number, contact us and we will explain the next steps on our side.
Yes. Where treatment is approved under a claim, we complete the required reporting and progress updates.
We welcome IFHP patients. Bring your valid IFHP document so we can verify what applies to your situation before treatment begins.
We will let you know as you approach your limit and discuss your options, which may include adjusting visit frequency or moving to a self-directed home program.
If you are unsure where you stand, get in touch. A short conversation with our team is often enough to clarify your options before you book.
